Each year I do an RVHR Summer Soccer camp for 5-9 age group the first full week of June.  It helps those that have never played soccer or RVHR to get ready for the upcoming season and also for those moving up to the 9-12 age group a little more in depth instruction into soccer rules and techniques, etc.

We will have our 9th Annual RVHR Summer camp from Monday, June 1st-Friday, June 5th from (9:30-11:30am at Valley Church (Church of God Campus).  Age group is 5-9 .

Cost is $76 for the week.  It includes soccer instruction, snacktime (snacks provided by RVHR), and a short biblical character study on patience, courage, forgiveness, kindness etc – Christ like attributes….We strive for a ratio of about 1 soccer helper/instructor to 7 campers so that we can provided adequate attention to each camper.   The summer camp is also open to non-homeschoolers so if your child has a friend they can be included.

Please let me know as soon as you can if you are interested so I can get a rough idea of the count for the camp.

Wrap up of the 2024 RVHR Fall soccer season
Wrap up of the 2024 RVHR Fall soccer season

In the Consolation Games we had lots of excitement.  In the 68 age division, the Warriors and Eagles battled to a 3-3 tie in regulation play and then extended a scoreless 10 minute sudden death overtime to end up sharing the 3rd place medal.

In the 912 age group, the Warriors vs. Defenders, the Defenders, who recently formed an expansion team at Smith Mountain lake,  reached the back of the net 4 times to clinch a 3rd place victory.

Finally, another exciting game in the 13+ Consolation game as the Warriors and Titans were able to score one time a piece ending in a 1-1 regulation tie, and with no goals scored in the 5 minute overtime the game went into a penalty shoot out.  The Titans13+ edging out the Warriors 3-1 in penalty shots to capture a 3rd place medal.  A special congratulations to the Warriors for having each of their age groups in the consolation games!

Excitement continued into the Championship games, as the Smith Mountain Lake expansion team, the undefeated Defenders68, edged out the Stars68 in an exciting 2-0 victory to capture the gold.  The stars68 will end with the silver medal for the Fall season.

The lights came on as the evening moved on to the 912 Championship game where the Eagles912 continued their undefeated season by outlasting the Flames912 by a 2-0 score to capture the gold.  The Flames912 will take home the silver.

Finally, as the chill of evening crept in, the Eagles13+ took their undefeated and unscored upon record into the Championship game against the Stars13+.  Both teams scored twice to end in a 2-2 tie taking it into a 5 minute overtime.  With no goals scored, the season for both teams hinged on outscoring the opponent in the penalty shoot out.  Five players lined up for each team and in the end, the Eagles edged out the Stars 3-2 in scored penalty shots.  The Eagles recapture the gold medal that eluded them in the Spring.  The Stars13+ will take home a well deserved silver medal.

As the excitement of the evening came to an end, the Coaches were not to be defeated in the semi annual Coaches vs. 13+MVP game.  Regulation play ended in a 2-2 tie and went directly into penalty shots.  The first 5 players ended in a 3-3 tie on penalty shots with coach Paul Richards acing his shot to force the game into sudden death penalty shots.  The next MVP13+ player missed his shot putting all the pressure on veteran Jason Desai to clinch it for the Coaches.  The round ball had no chance of escaping the back of the net as Jason Desai made contact and giving the Coaches a well deserved victory!!

As the cool of the night mingled with the darkness, a whisper from the 13+MVP players could be heard saying “We will get you in the Fall, coaches”…….an unverified rumor has it that the center ref whispered under his breath…..”yeah right…bring it on”
…..See everyone in the Fall

Thoughts on the Fall 2024 soccer season
Thoughts on the Fall 2024 soccer season

We are off to a great Fall soccer season with many competitive games with almost 60% of our games ending in 2 goal or less differential.

Spring 2024 Wrap Up
Spring 2024 Wrap Up

Thanks to everyone for making the 2024 RVHR Spring soccer season a success!!!
Special congratulations to all teams that made it to the Championship Night! Here is a re-cap of the evening!

CONSOLATION GAMES
In the 6-8 age group we had the Warriors68 edging out the Titans68 4-1 to bring home 3rd place for the Warriors68.. The 9-12 game was a nail biter going to the wire with a 1-0 win for the Stars912 over the Eagles912. The Stars912 will end up in 3rd place for the season. And finally in the 13+ game, the winning honors goes to the Stars13+ who took a 2-1 lead in the first half over the Warriors13+ and ended up adding another goal in the second for the final score of 3-1 and 3rd place finish for the season.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
The Patriots68 brought home a championship medal with a 4-1 win over the Flames68, who ended up in second place for the season. The 9-12 game brought much excitement with a 2-2 tie in regulation and a sudden death penalty shot in the right corner of the goal for the Flames912 who take the gold medal. The Patriots912 ended up in second place for the season. The 13+ game was a squeaker with the Patriots13+ adding a game winning goal in the second half to edge out the Eagles13+ 2-1.

COACHES VS. MVP PLAYERS GAME
And finally in the dusk of the evening, where car lights were illuminating the field, the Coaches vs. MVP game ended in a score of 3-1, with the 13+MVP players allegedly winning the game. Coaches are filing an official complaint to the US Soccer governing board. They will be providing absolute evidence that as you grow older your eye sight diminishes leaving the older coaches in a major disadvantage when playing on a field with no lights. When asked for comment, the head of the governing board was overheard stating that he thought the 13+MVP players had rigged the previous 912 game forcing into penalty shots, thus delaying the start of the 13+ game, and finally forcing the Coaches vs. MVP players game into the dusk hours and giving them the advantage. When pressed whether he thought this was true, he stated, “Sounds like something he 13+ players would do and we are going to get to the bottom of this quickly” Stay tuned for the automatic 3 additional goals that can be given to any team after the game is over if they have been wronged by the other………….

A special THANKS to all those who stepped up to coach this season. None of the excitement and great times would be possible without you —
Looking forward to the Fall Season!

Thanks Al
