First of all, due to some traveling, I am a little late in sending out the 2025 RVHR Spring Soccer wrap up. Thanks to everyone for making the season a fun and exciting one right down to the Championship Night…….
Our Championship Night started off a little wet, with the rain pushing our start times later by about 30 minutes……but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players, coaches or spectators!
In the 68 age group, yours truly, grandpa Bedrosian, was given the task for the first time of refing back to back overtime games that ended in a tie and co champs! I dont know if an “old man” can take this much excitement! The Consolation Game pitted the Eagles vs. the Patriots in a very well balanced 1-1 game. The game proceeded into a 5 minute overtime with no one able to pull ahead. The Championship Game had the Warriors vs. Defenders, who had tied in the regular season. The game ended in a back and forth 2-2 tie and finally no clear winner in the 5 minute overtime leaving both teams as Champions for the 2025 Spring Soccer season! Congrats to all four teams.
In the 912 age group, the Eagles repeated their score from the regular season with the Rams, with another 4-0 performance clinching 3rd place. The Rams should also be congratulated for even being in the Consolation, since this was the first year in several years that we have had a Rams team. In the 912 Championship game, the Patriots and Defenders held to a scoreless tie until the Patriots punched in two goals within about 10 minutes to capture the gold medal. Both teams played great soccer and added to the excitement of the night!
The 13+ games were equally exciting with two well played games. In the Consolation game, the Patriots defeated the ever improving Titans by a score of 3-0. The Patriots take home the bronze medal with this win.
As the night came to an end, I was a little concerned that we would actually get the 13+ game on the books. As a point of clarification, on Championship Night, I think it is important not rush the Championship Games, and play each one after the other and not overlap them. The players had worked so hard to make it to the final game, that all attention needed to be focused on one game at a time. But as the Patriots912 and Defenders912 were looking to end in a tie and possible overtime, it seemed that night would overtake the 13+Championship game. But as it turned out the Patriots912 won their game outright. The 13+Stars and 13+Eagles had their gathering and prayer on field 2 and immediately after the 912 Championship ran onto field 1 and started their game. And what a game it was!!! The Stars were ahead 2-1 until the final seconds of the game when Levi Suhr drilled in the tying goal. We went immediately into penalty kicks, with Chase Powell sealing the win for the Eagles by driving in the 4th successful penalty score. The Eagles capture the gold with a 4-1 win in penalty shots! The Eagles have been Champions 5 of the last 6 seasons!! Great job….
